Search and Care's mission is to seek out older people in the community who need help in managing life's daily activities or accessing essential services, and to provide them the support and companionship they require to live with security and dignity in the manner they choose.

For 40 years, Search and Care's hallmark is providing elders with compassionate and personalized comprehensive care, that also manages to be cost effective (on average less than $1,500 per client, per year). Many of our clients are frail, and often low income, isolated and homebound. Accepting the help of Search and Care is often preferred over the necessity to relocate to an alternative housing setting such as assisted, enriched, or nursing facilities. We serve clients who live in Yorkville, Carnegie Hill and East Harlem.

From a single social worker, today Search and Care now engages 15 professional staff, 10 graduate student interns (social work, nursing, and occupational therapy), over 125 carefully cultivated volunteers, an active Board of Directors, and a growing circle of 90+ diverse community partners ("eyes and ears" in their neighborhoods). All share a common goal: working collaboratively to build elder-friendly communities conducive to healthy aging. The agency also functions as a "surrogate" family for isolated and homebound clients who need companionship and a community-based network of support, when family members and friends may be unavailable or do not live nearby.

Our service area is Upper East Side of Manhattan
East 86th St. to East 116th St. (from the East River to Fifth Avenue)
